After the preparation of batter, the next step is that of baking. Baking is often referred as the backbone of cake making and decides the good or bad of the cake. So, let’s look at some of the points so as to perfect the art of baking:-
- Greasing– Greasing is the first step to baking. Apply butter on the bottom and sides of the mold or pan using a pastry brush. Now, cut a butter paper of the size of the mold and then place the cutout butter paper inside the mold. The butter on the bottom of the mold will ensure that the butter paper sticks on the mold.
Now, grease the butter paper with some butter using a pastry brush. Greasing of the mold is done in order to prevent the sticking of batter on the bottom and walls of the mold and ensure that the cake comes out complete after baking.

- Dusting- Dusting refers to the process of sprinkling some flour on an already greased mold. It is done in order to prevent the mixing of butter greasing on the bottom with the cake during the process of baking. However, some cooks avoid dusting and simple greasing as it may lead to the development of a thick layer of crust which may taste unpleasant. Despite that, dusting is absolutely necessary in the case of high sugar cakes. After greasing and dusting of mold, transfer the batter into it.
- Oven process- Before transferring the molds into the oven, do not forget to preheat the oven. Try to make space in the middle of the oven. Position the molds as close to the center as possible. They should not touch either the wall of the oven or of each other.
- Other tips- Rotate the pans in the oven from time to time to allow even baking. The total time of baking may vary from 30-55 minutes depending upon the type of cake and the ingredients used in it.
You can check whether the cake has been baked or not by poking a toothpick in it. If the toothpick comes out clean without any crumbs on it, this means that the cake has been perfectly baked. Now take out the cake from the mold by gradually turning it upside down and taking it out with the help of a spoon.
